The nightclub is not dying. It is moving. By 2030, half of the world's ordinary nightclubs are gone, and nightlife money concentrates into destination party capitals. Ibiza first.
The old West empties out. The UK lost over 400 clubs since 2020, 1 closing every 2 days. The US lost 12% of its nightclubs in 2 years. Berlin lost Watergate, the iconic techno club on the river Spree since 2002. Rekom, Britain's biggest nightclub operator, went bankrupt with 17 clubs at once. Gen Z drinks less, clubs less, and saves its money for concerts, festivals, and experiences.
Ibiza wrote the new playbook: a record €160 million in club ticketing in 2025, fewer events at higher prices. UNVRS opened as the world's first hyperclub, 15,000 capacity, on the site of the legendary Privilege. Day parties, hyperclubs, premium experiences. Volume out, yield in.
And the world follows the money. The Middle East builds nightlife from zero: Dubai imports the Ibiza model and Riyadh just entered the world's top 20 nightlife cities. Latin America parties on affordability: Medellin and Tulum run the destination scenes the West lost. Asia-Pacific is the biggest room in the house: a middle class of 3.5 billion people by 2030, with Bangkok and Bali as party magnets.
This is the same shift I called on my FUTURE CITIES 2040 card: wealth moves West to East, and entertainment power follows. The corner disco dies. The entertainment hub wins the night.
