Novo Nordisk's Ozempic and Wegovy and Eli Lilly's Mounjaro and Zepbound are the biggest weight-loss drugs in history. All 4 are peptides that copy gut hormones, GLP-1, and for Mounjaro and Zepbound a second one, GIP, which tell your brain you are full. Users lose 15 to 20% of body weight.
For 10,000 years hunger ran humans. In 2026 humans started running hunger. 2.5 billion adults are overweight or obese today. The US pill costs $149, Medicare pays $50 a month, and in India, China, Brazil, Turkey and Canada the Ozempic patent died in March 2026: copies from $15 a month.
Medically it holds, with limits: 20% fewer heart attacks, strokes and cardiac deaths combined, in people who already had heart disease, the weight comes back when you stop, and Cochrane warns the sellers paid for most trials. UK regulators logged 1,176 pancreatitis reports and 18 deaths on Mounjaro alone and put a fatal-pancreatitis warning on the whole class in January 2026.
A peptide is cheap to copy. That built the black market: fake Ozempic pens filled with insulin, raw semaglutide powder from Chinese labs sold as "research peptides", wellness clinics stacking it with unapproved healing peptides like BPC-157. The healing-peptide craze, BPC-157 and the Wolverine stack, has its own card. If it did not come from a pharmacy with your name on it, do not inject it.
The sellers now call it the first longevity drug. Wall Street counts 30 million Americans by 2030. I count 100 million worldwide: 50 million in the US, 30 million in India and China on copies, 20 million across Europe, Brazil, Japan and the Gulf. The rich switch hunger off, the poor eat what the machine sells.
